I KICK, THEREFORE I AM /

Not to be confused with the World Cup held in Brazil, the first edition of CONifa World Football Cup took place last June in the northern Swedish city of Ostersund. While 203 national teams fought a two-and-a-half-year battle across six continents to qualify for the World Cup in Brazil, the Swedish tournament was played by national teams not recognized by FIFA.
The participating teams represent a collection of unrecognized states, ethnic groups, islands and “frozen conflict” zones. Some want to raise awareness of their unique culture, while others hope for greater autonomy and perhaps one day even a nation of their own. One of the first steps toward that, and the only opportunity they have to play international football, is having a national soccer team. The 12 selected national football teams who played in Ostersund were: Abkhazia, Aramean Suryoye, Kurdistan, Tamil Eelam, Countea de Nissa, Darfur United, Ellan Vannin, South Ossetia, Nagorno Karabakh, Padania, Sapmi and Occitania. The competition was eventually won by the Nissa team.

CALCIO, QUINDI SONO (CONifa cup 2014)
